About Us

At The Sign of the Black Faced Sheep you will find a welcoming coffee shop and restaurant combined with an intriguing emporium, packed full of beautiful furniture, gifts and homeware carefully chosen to bring a little elegance and country into your living space.

Surrounded by the beauty of Royal Deeside with The Deeside Way on the doorstep, and situated in the picturesque village of Aboyne, The Black Faced Sheep has been quietly trading since 1990.  It’s heart and soul belongs to its founders and owners, Mark & Sylvi Ronson, who have nurtured shop and staff alike, running an eclectic store with a traditional family feel.

Coffee House & Restaurant

With our focus firmly on good quality ingredients, our food is freshly prepared and served with a genuine wish for your enjoyment.

On our menu you will find homemade soups and breads, petit pains and salads, a selection of bruschetta and platters (complemented by our homemade coleslaw and salads and finished with our own recipe dressing), and a much loved favourite ‘Marks Toasted Cheese’ - with or without the home cooked ham.

Our bread and cakes are also made on the premises and we are confident that they are the finest and most varied you will find in the area.  From the sumptuous Chocolate Rum & Orange, through to our gluten and dairy free Apricot & Almond Torte (not forgetting our plain baked Cheesecake), there’s something to satisfy every taste - and if you don’t have time to sit and relax with your meal, we offer a take out service.

Wine & Oil

Our wonderful wines have been hand selected (after much tasting, tasting and re-tasting - it’s a hard job but Mark & Sylvi take it on without a fuss or fight…) from delightful, small Italian vineyards in Liguria and Tuscany.

These wines have won some prestigious awards in the industry and we now import them directly from vineyards and are proud to be able to offer them to our customers either at the table or to take away, we are fully licensed both in house and for off-sales.

Some of the vineyards we deal with produce their own olive oil - we can confidently say that we now import some of the finest, first cold pressed olive oils.  Rich, peppery, citrus bursts - magnificent and unbeatable for dressings or just dipping with some crusty homemade bread...makes a lovely hostess gift too.

Functions & Catering

Our little restaurant has a unique ambiance and warmth to it - why not use it for an intimate function such as a Cheese & Wine Evening or a Buffet Evening, for special occasions such as an Anniversary party or even a ‘Work Night Out’?

Our homemade pate, meat or fish platters, coleslaw and various salads are all available in larger take away portions (for those relaxed suppers with friends, leaving you with the job of welcoming your guests in - let’s face it, we all love to get creative in the kitchen, but once in a while it’s also lovely to let someone else).  All of our cakes are available to order whole - all we ask is 24 hours notice (although sometimes we can pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat - you can but ask!).

We are also happy to provide catering for small outside events such as birthday parties, christenings or small wedding buffets, and for funerals (all treated with a delicate, unobtrusive care) - whatever your requirements give us a call to find out what we could do for you.
